Hôpital de Cavaillon
Hôpital de Cavaillon
The hospital of Cavaillon is a former Hôtel-Dieu (public health building) in Cavaillon, Vaucluse. The main building and the chapel were bought by the Jouve family, a wealthy family from Cavaillon, in the 1910s. In addition to safeguarding the built heritage of Cavaillon, their goal was to create in this space a museum grouping their discoveries and their collections of many clues and archaeological objects. At her death in 1938, Marie-Thérèse bequeathed the Hôtel-Dieu Museum and the entire Jouve collection to the Calvet Foundation. The first curator of the museum was André Dumoulin, from 19461. The hospital of Cavaillon is classified as a historical monument since December 13, 1988.
