Palais de Justice

In the 14th century, after the plague epidemic, this place was used for burials. Afterwards, it became the fairground until 1850, when the Palace of Justice was built. The old Hôtel-Dieu de la Trinité was located between numbers 4 and 12 of the rue Duguet. In 1921, the Municipality decided to raise a monument to keep the memory of the numerous dead of the 1914-1918 war. The realization was entrusted to the Berrichon sculptor Ernest Nivet, student of Rodin. Inaugurated on November 18, 1923, the monument represents the weeping Berrichonne woman who stands near a lantern of the dead; she symbolizes the pain of the widows and mothers of the soldiers.
