Avenue Marcel Roustan
Marcel ROUSTAN - Resistance fighter
1896 - 1944
Captain Roustan who led the resistance in the south of France at Salon de Provence. He was a hero of the First World War, where he was awarded the Legion of Honor with the rank of Knight. He was mobilized again in 1939 but was demobilized after the defeat. He was then chosen to organize the resistance as Chief of the Secret Army, and was captured in 1944 by the Gestapo thanks to information from the agent "Erick". (Catalina report of which I have a copy of the time). He was tortured and shot at Val de Cuech near Salon on the orders of SS Dunker. The rugby stadium where he was a player bears his name today as well as many steles in the south east of France. In memory of Captain Marcel ROUSTAN, hero and martyr of the resistance, leader of the Secret Army. He was arrested here on June 7, 1944, heinously tortured, and shot in Salon on June 15, 1944."
