Maison de Laurent Giubega

Carrughju Giubega

The Giubega (or Guibega) family is of Genoese origin. They settled in Corsica from the 16th century and were part of the local notability, serving the Republic of Genoa.

This house belonged to Laurent Giubega, godfather of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was here that the young Napoleon was welcomed with his entire family, between May and June 1793, as they fled Ajaccio.

In 1771, Laurent Giubega was chosen to replace Marbeuf as godfather at Napoleon Bonaparte's baptism. The Giubega siblings included several illustrious figures, among them Vincenzo Giubega, the great Corsican poet and diplomat.
