Ancien lavoir

Ancien lavoir

Edified in 1846, the first municipal washhouse was located on this square. A watering place had been built, leaning against the supporting wall of the square. This is where horses, mules and other mules were tied up because they were not allowed to park in the square. The use of the wash house was only allowed at certain times because the noise of the washing machines disturbed part of the population. This small washhouse, whose water came from the Padule, was deregulated in 1971.

The new washhouse built in 1970 is located Place du Canon, it is fed by a source coming from the district of Occi west of the city.

The Lavoir is a basin in which laundry can be washed. A drinking trough was located in front of the washhouse to allow mules and horses to drink. This ancient basin was fed by a stream. It has now been destroyed
