Rue des Forges

Rue des Forges

The street runs alongside the Chambelland (Gothic) and Maillard (Renaissance) townhouses. The latter presents a profuse decoration, with a diversified repertory (lions, cabbages, garlands) exceptional for its time. The courtyard of the Hôtel Chambelland when entering through the door located at 34 rue des Forges. If the small corridor does not look like much, it contains a 15th century construction with a wooden gallery, flamboyantly decorated railings and a spiral staircase. The roof is decorated with gargoyles and pinnacles and is supported by vegetated cornices. In the cellars of the Hôtel Aubriot (13th century) were kept the monetary deposits. Above the "Voutes du Change", Guillaume Aubriot, who was in charge at the time, built his hotel, which has since been largely restored.
