Rue Emile Jamais
Émile JAMAIS - Politician
1856 - 1893
Émile Jamais was born in Aigues-Vives. He is a French politician. Émile Jamais studied at the Lycée de garçons de Nîmes, then at the Faculty of Law in Paris, where he graduated in Roman law and civil law. He won the Concours général des facultés de droit de France and was awarded a doctorate in 1881. He showed a strong interest in public life and revolutionary ideas: secretary of the Paris Lawyers' Conference, he then became involved in extreme left-wing movements. He became a Republican deputy for the Gard in 1885. Appointed to the budget committee, in 1892 he became under-secretary of state for the Colonies in the Emile Loubet government. He resigned from this position in January 1893, claiming that the government's policy was insufficiently revolutionary. A few months later, Émile Jamais died of a facial erysipelas contracted after a cold1, at the age of 37.
