Monument aux morts

On October 22, 1922, the esplanade de la Vista was dedicated to the fallen of the Great War, with the erection of a monument to the dead. The project was initiated by Adolphe Landry, deputy mayor of Calvi and Minister of the Navy. At the time, the town council voted an exceptional sum of 30,000 francs for its realization.

The monument is adorned with a statue by sculptor Emmanuel Frémiet, nephew of the illustrious François Rude, entitled "La Victoire". Originally, this statue was part of a group of two works entitled Les Gloires, commissioned for the landscaping of the Place du Carrousel, in the Tuileries Gardens.
