El Museo de Arte Popular (MAP)

The Museo de Arte Popular (MAP) in Mexico City is a museum of popular art that exhibits outstanding works of craftsmanship that reflect a popular culture accessible to all. It was inaugurated on February 28, 2006. The MAP's art deco-style building was built in 1928 by architect Vicente Mendiola to replace a hospice and a school. In México, folk art occupies about 8 million artisans. Each region of the country has its own richness and traditions, which contribute to the greatness of Mexican folk art. Some of the objects in the collection date back to pre-Hispanic times, others are contemporary. Ceramics, silver, wood, wood, glass, cardboard, paper, sugar paste... the museum has 2,600 pieces that attest to the creativity and ingenuity of Mexican artisans.
