Rue du Docteur del Pellegrino

Baptistère Saint-Jean

The building consists of a single wall. The baptistery was built in opus incertum. In plan, its preserved structure draws an apse in the centre of which is a baptismal basin. Attributed to the beginning of the 6th century, it has a primitive cruciform tank that will undergo several modifications. The baptistery was partially destroyed and integrated into a new church at the end of the 6th or beginning of the 7th century. The primitive tank was then abandoned for a circular basin. This baptistery depended on the primitive cathedral whose location remains unknown. Classified as a historical monument since 2013.
