Salle des Marronniers

Rue Marius Pascau

Monsieur Marius Pascau, mayor of Auriol from 1944 to 1953 gave his name to the former "Rue du Pont" where you stand today, in front of the "Salle des Marronniers"

Here once stood the "Chapelle des Filles". Conveniently accessible, this 24-meter-long by 9-meter-wide building had been constructed in 1782. To ensure its stability, the construction had to be supported on a bed of some thirty pilings driven vertically into the ground, as had been done in 1743 for the same reason to the church of the Capuçins convent, also located on the banks of the Huveaune, at the bottom of today's Cours du 4 Septembre.

After long serving as the "Chapelle des Filles", the chapel was replaced by the "Chapelle des Filles"

After long serving as a place of worship and meeting place for the "Congrégation des Demoiselles", the Filles chapel was gradually abandoned.

After the creation in Puol of the "Espace de la Confluence" auditorium, the hall on rue Marius Pascau, once its restoration had been completed, became the "Salle des Marronniers", named after the two avenues of horse chestnut trees lining it
