Rue Albert 1er
Rue Albert 1er
As a tribute to the "King Knight" who had distinguished himself in his fierce fight against Germany from 1914 to 1918 and in order to honor the Belgian colony, on February 18, 1927 the "rue de la tour" was transformed into "rue Albert I". On February 17, 1934, the King of the Belgians was killed in a mountain accident in Marche-les-Dames, in the Ardennes. One year to the day, the municipality of Camaret inaugurated the monument erected to his memory in the Biovès Gardens. The monument was made by Antoine Gioan, architect, and the plaque by the Belgian sculptor De Vries. The inauguration took place in the presence of the writer Maurice Maeterlink.
