Passage André Léonard Bonnet

Passage André-Léonard Bonnet

Before the opening of the passage, there was no communication for the public between the Place du Château and the Place Grimaldi, in the Haut de Cagnes. Only two doors allowed passage: a monumental one in Place Grimaldi and a very small one in Place du Château. These doors gave access to the vault of the same volume as the one that exists today. In 1959, under the presidency of Edouard Robion, the passage was developed as it is today. Léonard André-Bonnet, was the technical adviser under the responsibility of Mr. Février, architect of the buildings of France. Local craftsmen carried out the work and a plaque recalls the names of these workers who had a taste for beautiful work. 7 to 8 meters long, almost as wide, there is a dry well and two doors, one of which leads to the underground passages and the other to the Maison des Artistes. During the 1939-1945 war, the inhabitants of the Haut de Cagnes passed through there to get to the shelter under the Château. Léonard André-Bonnet lived in Haut de Cagnes and his generosity towards the town earned him recognition and since 1959 this passageway has been named after him.
