Fontaine des Quatre Dauphins

Place des 4 Dauphins

Sculpted in 1667 by Jean-Claude Rambot on the former Place Mazarine, the Four Dolphins fountain quickly imposed its style. So much so that it gave its new name to the square, the street that crosses it keeping the name Mazarine.protected as a Historic Monument in 1905, it is composed of a circular basin built in cold stone from the Sainte Baume, whose center is occupied by a dolphin-shaped obelisk supported by four dolphins. Their caudal fins are carved in Calissanne stone.for the record, the top of the obelisk was successively decorated with a golden fleur-de-lis, a pine cone, then a Maltese cross and again a pine cone, made by the sculptor Servian after the Second World War. Vandalized in the 80's, it was replaced with an identical one.In 2015, the Four Dolphins fountain was restored.

The fountain was restored in 2015
