Rond-Point des trois rivières

Rond-Point des trois rivières

This intersection initially equipped with traffic lights, was upgraded to a traffic circle to improve automobile traffic at a very sensitive point on the municipal roadway, at the crossroads of the roads leading to Dijon, Auxonne or Longchamp.the statues put in place on the roundabout in July 2006 underline the importance of the Tille, the Ouche and the Norge for Genlis: they are the Three Rivers.these statues have been realized, at the request of the municipality of Genlis, by Gérald Déloge, known as Bol, in order to adorn the roundabout as part of the r novation of the RD 905 (ex RN 5). The statues measure 2.50 meters high and weigh almost 3 tons each. They were sculpted in Burgundy stone from the Châtillonnais.

The sculptor, a native of the canton, wanted to make a triptych putting in parallel the three rivers surrounding the commune of Genlis and the three roads that lead to it by representing it with three women. These three women, with their luscious forms, are all different. The one you see when coming from Dijon wears clothes that show the marbled character of the Genlis plain on the side of Dijon.the statue that stands on the hill of Longchamp comes out of an amphora. This vase is reminiscent of the Longchamp fa Finally, the third woman the shell woman who is oriented on Auxonne, comes out of a shell and holds in her arms a méandre de la Saône.indeed, all three of these rivers flow into the Saône.

All three rivers have a very different flow

On the other hand, the artist has been able to enhance the beauty of the stone and the forms by leaving some parts untouched by tooling, and polishing others. Indeed, this gives the sculptures a particular rendering thanks to the variations in the appearance and colors of the material.
