Rue Adolphe Landry

Adolphe LANDRY - Politician

1874 - 1956

Adolphe Landry, born September 29, 1874 in Ajaccio and died August 28, 1956 in Paris, was a French economist and politician. As an economist, he posed in 1901 the problem of the quantum of capitalization necessary for a creation of wealth in accordance with the social interest. However, it is mainly through his demographic work that he is recognized today. He was one of the proponents of ethical socialism. He ardently defended natalist ideas and the cause of families. At the same time, Landry had a political career. Several times minister under the Third Republic, he generalized family allowances in 1931 and inspired the Family Code of 1939. In 1946, he became a radical senator for Corsica until 1956. He was also mayor of Calvi.
