Fontaine d'Espéluque

Rue Adanson

Located in Place des Martyrs de la Reseistance, the fountain was created in 1618 for the chapter of the cloister;it was given to the local residents and then placed against a Roman wall in 1750 to facilitate circulation. The fountain owes its name to a certain Espeluca who was apparently the owner of the spring. The water comes from an underground cave, the only water source of the 15th century. It has a basin made of hard stone from the Bibeacute mus massif with pilasters and a classical entablature. On the bronze plaque of 1953 is the profile of Marcel Joannon, called Marcel Provence (1892-1951). He was a scholar from Aix-en-Provence, a student of Fr;ales, historian, mécène, president of the Académie of Aix and administrator of the château of Lourmarin.
