Théâtre des Sources
Grand'place
The municipality led by Emile Davaine decided at the beginning of the 20th century to build a spa. Indeed, any spa worthy of the name had to have this type of establishment (beyond the Café-Théacute;âtre déprésent to the Spa). Saint-Amand-les-Eaux wished to have an Italian-style theatre similar to those in Paris. The works, led by the architects Gustave and Eugene Dupont, lasted from 1906 to 1911, on the site of the former abbey church. The facade, surmounted by the city's coat of arms, reflects the ornamentation of the era: lyres, fire pots, laurels, garlands... Its inauguration in 1911 is a real event that gathers distinguished guests around the symphony orchestra, while a biplane flies over the Abbey Tower.
