Notre Dame

The church of Notre Dame de Dijon, considered a masterpiece of 13th century Gothic architecture, is located in the heart of the 97-hectare protected area of Dijon, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 4, 2015. Its facade is decorated with fine columns and rows of false gargoyles. It is surmounted by the Jacquemart, war catch of Philip the Bold, which still gives rhythm to the life of the district. only a few gargoyles of the 13th century remain, on the sides of the facade. According to tradition, a usurer who came to get married was crushed by one of the gargoyles. His colleagues obtained their removal... It is only from 1880 to 1882 that seven sculptors were entrusted with the creation of the current false gargoyles.
