Rue Doria
Rue Doria
The Doria is a famous family à Bonifacio. Also very well known à Gênes, it was among the great names of the city in the sixteenth century. During the battle of Lleida against the Ottomans in 1571, five galleys were chartered by Gecircles and twenty by the Doria. The street that now bears their name is narrow, filled with tall houses with remarkable balconies.
The Doria family is especially represented by its admiral Andrea Doria (1466-1560), defender of Gênes, victorious in turn of the Moors, the Turks, the Spaniards, Charles V, the French of François 1st. He is considered to be the one who gave back to Gênes its freedom. Nevertheless, and despite the pressing demands, he refused to become doge.
You find in this street the House that housed the Doria family.
