L’église Saint Germain

The present church is located on the historical site of the heart of the fortified city of La Châtre. The first church of the city was probably built in the 11th century. After the fire of La Châtre in 1152, another building was erected, with a nave of 30 meters long. The bell tower was only built in the 16th century. It was rebuilt in 1895 following a donation, but no foundation calculations were made, and it collapsed a year later, taking the nave with it. The inhabitants were generous enough to participate in the construction of the whole new church. It was consecrated on October 16, 1904. Inside, there is a 15th century piéta from the Carmelite convent.
