Pôle Sénior Francine PLACE

Avenue du Clos

The shower baths facility was built between 1925 and 1934 according to the plans of architect Léon Raux. The rectangular building is organized around the central basin, near the entrance hall, framed by a shower room and a bath room, and adjoined by a kitchen and a room forming the janitor's quarters. The dressing rooms are placed on the longitudinal sides of the pool, topped with wooden lintels and a glass-covered exposed metal frame.
Nowadays, the former Art Déco swimming pool became a senior pool and hosts activities around aging well, wellness and living together. It is both a place of information and a place of fun, sports and cultural activities. It allows you to attend conferences, visit exhibitions, and take part in numerous leisure activities, multimedia workshops, physical activities, wellness, sophrology, and fun workshops. Inaugurated on October 2, 2021, a 17-meter stained glass window depicting water and the rising sun was created specifically for the occasion by the Thomas Masson workshop.
Who was Francine Place?
Born in 1939 in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, Francine Place was first deputy from 1995 to 2001 during her first mandate, as well as President of the Centre Communal d’Action Sociale. As a free-lance nurse, she was committed to the defense of her profession by serving on numerous boards of directors. She was an affable, dynamic, generous and very appreciative person. Unfortunately, illness led her to gradually give up her responsibilities in the service of the city, before she left us on May 31, 2010. The Municipality pays her a fervent tribute here.
