Rue Védrines
Jules VEDRINES - Adventurer
1881 - 1919
Jules Védrines is a character à both unclassifiable and yet very characteristic of the débuts of aviation. Born in Saint-Denis in 1881, he obtained a pilot's license in 1910. This new discipline, in full expansion, corresponded to the expectations of a character like Védrines, sportsman and adventurer, joker and persistent.
Between 1910 and 1914, he participated in the great air races in France and then in Europe. The press, which is the écho with dithyrambic éloges, transforms the pilots into mascots funambulists of the new dimension. In 1912, he participated for the first time in the Paris-Madrid race, which he won by finishing alone. The following year, he left for the United States to conquer the Godron Bennet speed cup for France.

In 1913, finally, he made several raids in Central Europe and then a Paris-Le Cairo. Védrines is a huge star of the pre-war aviation, which places tens of thousands of people when it is announcedé on a field. Mobilized in 1914 in the new air force, his talents will allow him to develop new aviation practices.
