The High Line Observation Deck
The High Line Observation Deck
The High Line Observation Deck, officially known as "The Spur," is a relatively new addition to New York City's famous High Line park. It opened in June 2019 as part of the final section of the High Line. Located at 30th Street and 10th Avenue, it's the widest part of the High Line and offers unique views of the city and Hudson Yards.
Did you knows?
- Art Installation: The Observation Deck features a rotating series of large-scale art installations. The inaugural piece was "Brick House," a 16-foot-tall bronze bust of a Black woman by artist Simone Leigh.
- Last-Minute Save: This section of the High Line was almost demolished in the early 2000s but was saved through the efforts of community activists and the city government.
- Planting Design: The landscaping around the Observation Deck includes plants that are native to New York, chosen to attract local wildlife and create a sustainable urban ecosystem.
