Place des Corps Saints
Fontaine Corps Saints
One of the most monumental fountains of the city is located on the Place des Corps Saints. A vast curved basin receives in the center a structure composed of a pedestal surmounted by a basin with cut sides. The water is discharged by four swans with open beaks, where the inhabitants could get drinking water. A young triton blowing a horn, with a bifid tail and a shell on its forehead, with a turtle on its knees, adorns the side of the basin towards the city. It is inspired by a triton of the Lorraine sculptor Hubert Lavigne, a great specialist of ornaments related to water. This fountain and its decorative elements in iron bronze were manufactured by the Barbezat et Cie foundry located in the Val d'Osne in Haute-Marne, particularly specialized in the production of fountains and their ornaments. These motifs can be found in many fountains in our region.
