Place des Frères Brun
Hôpital Saint-Joseph / Hôtel-Dieu
At the end of the 14th century, the different hospitals of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue were united in the Hôpital Vieux or Franciscan Hospital. In 1685, it was transferred to a place that included a house with a garden sold by an aristocrat, Monsieur de Vaucluse, as well as a garden and its small house bought from one of the rectors of the hospital, Laurent Autier. In spite of a first enlargement decided in 1713, the space of this Hôtel-Dieu, which had been entrusted to the sisters of the congregation of Saint-Joseph since before its construction, quickly became insufficient. In the 1740s, the plans for the new hospital were given to Jean-Baptiste Franque, supported by local contractor Esprit Brun and his sons, Jean-Ange and Esprit-Joseph, both architects. The work was completed in 1781-1782 with the decoration of the chapel.
