La Villa Romée
The Villa Romée is a villa in Cannes, registered as a historical monument and labeled Patrimoine du XXème siècle. The villa built in 1928 is one of the first buildings built by the architect Georges-Henri Pingusson in collaboration with the architect Paul Furiet. The villa was built as part of the Villa des Pins subdivision operation. It was commissioned by a wealthy woman from the world of theater, Madame Marielle Octavie Aron, widow of Jacques-Isidore Gompel, who died for France in 1918. Madame Gompel sold her house in 1935. Despite its great architectural quality, the villa went through a period of abandonment and squatting. The villa Romée mêle a regionalist style with modern art elements reminiscent of some of the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright: important porte-agrave;-faux with balconies in straight marked lines and porthole openings.
