Allées des Boulingrins
Boulingrins
Upstream from the Casino, the "French garden" of the boulingrins offers a magnificent view of the Casino square. In its centre, this surprising mirror reflecting the majestic Casino of Monte-Carlo. A succession of fountains, pavilions and flowerbeds in the heart of Monte-Carlo. The garden was laid out in 1865, at the same time as the construction of the Casino and the Hôtel de Paris. The game of bowls was already played in the 17th century on the passages crossing the gardens. The garden alleys were very popular with the British clientele, who called this meeting place the "green", so the "Bowling-green" became the Boulingrins. The gardens underwent many transformations. The last one was finished in 1989, after the construction of an underground car park cut in the rock and covered with a concrete slab. It is on this slab that the present gardens were laid out to offer a pleasant walk amidst water fountains and flowers.
