Vincent SCOTTO - Composer
1874 - 1952
Vincent Scotto is a French composer from the northern Gulf of Naples. He learned the guitar at the age of seven, then studied music in a religious institution. After having animated the weddings and banquets of the Marseilles region by accompanying the singers with the guitar, he began a solo career in Marseilles in 1906.
Scotto
Vincent Scotto is the composer of four thousand songs, and sixty opérettes. Many of his songs have been international successes, in Europe and the United States. The series of his Marseillaise operas has done much to spread a certain image of Marseille and its people, sometimes caricatured, in Paris, if not throughout the world.
His popularity has also grown in the last few years
His current popularity is also due to the numerous musics he composed for the cinema. There are more than two hundred films to his credit, including those of his friend Marcel Pagnol, who wrote this tribute to him: "My dear Vincent, when you leave, you will leave one or two hundred songs, feelings about you, ideas about you, which will still do good to people who are not born. Scotto died in Paris at the age of 78, one year before the creation of his last work, Les Amants de Venise, at the Mogador theatre. He rests at the Saint-Pierre de Marseille cemetery.
